PC sales soar in third quarter (Asia-Pacific Region)
Singapore (dpa) - Strong growth in personal computer (PC) sales continued in the Asia-Pacific region during the third quarter of this year, a research house said on Monday.
Estimates from International Data Corporation (IDC) said purchases increased 9 per cent over the second quarter and 15 per cent year-on-year.
"Nearly all the countries managed to beat expectations" in demand for notebooks, said Bryan Ma, IDC's director of Asic-Pacific personal systems research.
He mentioned a surge in Malaysia as a result of aggressive promotions in the country.
But "Thailand still fell a bit short due to the political situation there," the report said.
"Instability in the (Thai) government coupled with floods in the North had a dampening effect in 3Q06, but the PC market there still managed a year-on-year growth of 5 per cent."
"IDC expects notebooks to continue to soar across the region in the upcoming quarters," Ma added.
